As it turns out, I didn’t get much chance to stop and explore ghost towns on this leg of the storm chasing trip. I will go again soon, and may get a better chance.
I did run across this article. And more about it here.
The CPR 694 struck boulders on the track and slid into Lake Superior back in 1910. Unfortunately, all three crew members perished in the accident.
Back in 2014, one of the box cars was found, but the rest of the wreck was still missing until 2016.
The articles point to its condition as undisturbed and, implied in that, is that it is well preserved. Unfortunately, the rustcicles and bubbling paint say otherwise. Raising it would be almost impossible due to its condition. Furthermore, with three people perishing in the accident, it will likely stay at the bottom to leave their remains undisturbed.
Thank you for reading my post.
