A few weeks ago, I was visiting friends and family on the east coast. On my return trip from Chantilly, VA, to King George, VA, I saw that a CSX train had derailed just east of Fredericksburg. What made this particularly interesting to me was that I saw a train derailed there back in the early 2000’s as well. I’m not sure what is wrong with that particular spot.
I sat and watched the railroad crews clean up and put a few of the cars back on the track. It was a neat process, involving two massive cranes and a backhoe. The crane would lift the car, still filled with coal and put it back on the track, just like I used to do with my HO scale railroad. They did end up cutting some of the track with a torch, which was pretty cool as well.
After an hour or so, I left and went home.
My mother sent me a picture yesterday, as the crews are still cleaning up the track.
Thank you for reading my post.
