My grandfather (Pop-Pop) built his house in 1960. On his property stood the “old house.” I don’t think anybody knows how old the old house was, but it was there before 1960.
Several other houses of this style exist in the Millington-Chestertown-Rockhall area of Maryland, with this asphalt-type siding.
Recently, Pop-Pop’s property sold, and given the state of this house, the new owners will likely tear it down.
As a kid, I remember playing in this house with my brother. Pop-Pop used it for storage, but we would play hide and go seek in it. There was a wood stove for cooking and heating in one corner, with floor/ceiling vents to heat the upstairs rooms. The stairs were much more narrow than a modern staircase, and nobody dared go under the stairs for fear of what might be in there.
Thank you for reading my post. If you have an information on the age of this building, or when this style was popular, please feel free to comment!
