Back in 2006, I had the opportunity to take a safety course for fire fighters who might encounter a railroad disaster. The course was hosted by a representative of the NTSB and another from BNSF.
One of the highlights of the course was when they took us down to the Socorro railroad station and let us look through a modified tank car used for training purposes. The car had every type of valve and fitting used on tank cars. The object was that the firefighters know how to shut valves, open valves, etc regardless of what type of car may be damaged.
I took a few photos- but not nearly as many as I should have taken!
