On June 6, 2010, we made a brief stop in Las Vegas, NM on our way home from the SIA Spring Conference. Las Vegas is not really a ghost down. It is more like a semi-ghost town that is a decent-sized watering hole along I-25 between Santa Fe, NM and Raton, NM.
Our first stop was the Harvey House down by the tracks. It looked like the Harvey House was recovering from years of neglect- featuring a bar and loft apartments. One of the locals told us that the apartments were new and that the Harvey House was getting some use again. Originally, the Harvey House was known as Montezuma’s Castle, and was set to attract visitors to the hot springs nearby. (1)
We also took a quick peek at the station, which appears to be in use, perhaps for Amtrak.
A few blocks away, we also found the old roundhouse. It is being used as the most awesome of storage units today.
